thrift stop

I stopped into the local op shop on the way back from dropping off Ellie at daycare this morning. They were having a sale – three summer tops for $5. Not sure if that influenced my decision to purchase these tops or not. I think it probably did.

I nearly didn’t get this first one because it’s kind of a trendy style that’s in every single women’s clothing store. (This one is from Target.) But the dressiness, comfort (there’s a bit of stretch to it) and the colour drew me in and I could try to style it in a unique way.

When I touched the pink one I thought it was silk. Checked the tag and it’s polyester, but I bought it anyway to wear to bed because it’s cute and lush-feeling and oversized. Slowly getting over my aversion to pink. (This makes 2 pink wearables in my closet now!)

I got this green one with the intention of removing the shoulder pads and changing the buttons (not a fan of gold buttons on anything).

And that’s what I did:

re-buttoned and shoulder pad-removed

It’s hugely oversized, due to the pleats at the shoulders (on both front and back). I’m a bit iffy about it as is, so I might resize it. What do you think?

But I adore the vintage buttons I used – had them for ages, they’re from the Camberwell market.

I’ve just found your blog and have enjoyed your posts. I love the tutorial on making a t-shirt based on an existing one. Being a beginner sewer, I’ll have a stab at that one soon enough!

Thanks for stopping by, Sonia, I’m really glad you like it.

If you give the tutorial a go, just let me know if anything’s not clear. It’s my first one!

  3. Your new blog looks great! Nice scores too. I was wondering; the buttons on your banner – did you buy those on etsy? I think I may have possibly sold them to you about 2-3 years ago. That would be so trippy if so!!

      Thank you!

And no, I didn’t buy them on Etsy. But yes, that would be weird!

Maybe the green top would look cute with a belt to cinch in the waist? Dunno – but worth a try.
